Honor Your Father and Mother
Honor your father and mother.
“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, wish you a blessed day in the Lord!
The above subject verses (Ephesians 6:2-3) are very important because they talk about an important commandant which is part of the Ten Commandments. The commandment which calls for the people to honor their parents. This is the fifth commandment of the Ten commandments (while the Catholics count it fourth). Let the number be fourth or fifth, but it is very important to note that it is the first commandment with a promise. Yes, this commandment comes with a promise. The promise that all be well in our lives and will also enjoy a long life on this earth.
God considers honoring the biological parents as an important act and also essential for a person’s upliftment. The special relationship of love, affection and reverence is what evolves between parents and children. But the strengthening of this bond with respect to time and space is what God wants and expects from us. The truth that prevails nowadays is quite contrary. There are some who abuse their parents and some who drags their parents to streets. While some are more clinical in their execution, that they send their parents to the old-aged homes. And also they have exhaustive reasons why they did so. Let the reason be anything, they forget that what they sow is what they reap.
God our Father and Master!
If things can be so wrong with our own biological parents then how are we with our God who is our Father and our Master. As God asks in the Book of Malachi, where is the honor and respect that is due to Me?
A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty. “It is you priests who show contempt for my name. “But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’
Malachi 1:6
Therefore beloved, let us examine ourselves where we stand. Are we living a righteous life honoring our parents and above all honoring the Almighty God? If not so, repent right now and seek His forgiveness. Our Lord Jesus who took upon Himself all the sins of the world is right there waiting for you to return to Him. Repent and seek Him to be your Lord. Let your parents receive the same kind of love and respect and finally be blessed for the life in Jesus’ matchless name. Amen.
