Beloved Brothers and Sisters, wish you a happy and merry Christmas in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

The above subject verse (Matthew 1:23) is the fulfillment of the prophesy (Isaiah 7:14) which Isaiah made in respect of Jesus Christ.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14 NIV

Then why did they name the Lord as “Jesus” instead of “Immanuel“. We can truly understand this when we read the Bible verses ahead of the subject verse i.e, Matthew 1:20-23. Certainly, it is clear from the below verses why our Lord was named ‘Jesus’. The name Jesus directly came from the Heavenly Father and the angel of God delivered it to Joseph, the earthly father of our Lord (Matthew 1:21). Since, Jesus is God with us, therefore He is Immanuel. The angel of God made it a point to Joseph that his would be wife Mary conceived our Lord Jesus through God the Holy Spirit. Also, the angel mentions the prophesy and its fulfillment (Matthew 1:22).

20. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

21. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

23. “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). ‘

Matthew 1:20-23

Jesus, the Lamb of God

So, why did Jesus come to this world? We all celebrate Christmas in the remembrance of our Lord and His birth. God saw the Humanity to be thick in its sins. The animal sacrifices which the people were making could never fully erase their sins. God loved the mankind so much that He gave His begotten Son as the most highest gift. Furthermore, our Lord Jesus fully submitted Himself to do the will of the Heavenly Father. Jesus chose to be the Sacrificial Lamb for the whole humanity. And once for all, paid the ultimate price – the Sacrifice on the Calvary Cross for the redemption of the mankind.

Finally brethren, remember Jesus came down to this sinful earth on the sole purpose of saving us from our sins. By His death on the Calvary, He conquered the death for us. Thereby our salvation is in Him alone. So, we are required to believe and accept Jesus as our Lord. Remember, Jesus is the only way to the Holy Father. Amen.
