Love your enemy

Beloved in Christ, “love your enemy”. For this is what our Lord wants.

But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

Luke 6:27‭-‬28 ESV.

Greetings and warm wishes in the loving and living name of Lord Jesus Christ!

Lord Jesus’ sermon on the mount is the world’s most noted and discussed moral teachings. The Sermon on the Mount is also considered by many to contain the central tenets of Christian discipleship. Truly, the teachings inspire greatly all who are in the path of godly living. The above said verses from Luke 6:27-28 is also a part of the sermon on the mount. As there was a popular belief during that time to hate ones enemies, Jesus made this remarkable statement. This statement which asks to love ones own enemies, is something which nobody would have anticipated during that time and as well as of now. Yes, even now it makes one to double check. I think it is the most difficult thing, one could ever do.

Jesus asked us to love our enemies like how He loved us even when we were thick as sin. We could all be considered as enemies of Jesus by virtue of the sin and the rebellious nature that is present in us. Jesus loved us, but not our sin. And here too, He asks us to love the enemy as a person, not his sin or his any other attributes. He asks us to do good to those who hates us as He continually does good things to one and all. It is all about our heart and likeness of our mind. Certainly this is not something we can do by our own patience, perseverance or as good deeds. When we change into the likeness of Jesus, doing these things would seem natural.

Just as Apostle Paul said, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1)“. And also our Lord Jesus while washing the feet of His disciples, asked them to be do like Him. So brethren, let us all submit to our Lord Jesus and do all things that He wants us to do, even those things said in the above verses. In Jesus matchless name. Amen.
