All the glory, praises and honor be to the Holy Father in Jesus’ precious name!

The subject verse from the Book of Proverbs is called as the prayer of Agur. Emphatically, some say that this is the only prayer found in the entire Book of Proverbs. Salvation and providence of God are the two key ideas that are brought out through this verse.

Salvation of God

The first things that the author prays here is to keep him from falsehood and lies. Surely, these two attributes lead people away from God. The Bible clearly says that the Lord God hates who wear falsehood and those who never care second thought before lying. And it is no surprise why the Psalmist hated and abhorred falsehood. Also, the author is convinced that these two attributes shall not provide him the salvation of God. Therefore, he wanted God to shield him chiefly from these two attributes.

Therefore thus says the Lord God : “Because you have uttered falsehood and seen lying visions, therefore behold, I am against you, declares the Lord God .

Ezekiel 13:8 ESV

Providence of God

The second thing that the author sought is of from the Lord God’s generous providence. He seeks the God what is his portion of food for life. He neither seeks riches nor want to live impoverished life. But he seeks just what is necessary to lead life. Truly, the author seeks contentment in just the right amount, lest he may fall from the way of the Lord.

Brethren, it would be great on our part if we too seek and pursue what is absolutely necessary for us. For it is wise to seek things those things which always keeps us in the righteous path of salvation. And It is absolutely unnecessary to have things which our body, soul and spirit could never handle. Therefore, seek God what is right and what is good for both our spiritual and physical needs. Very importantly, seek in the matchless and mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
