Eager to do Good
Eager to do good ?
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?
All the glory, praises and honor be to the Heavenly Father in Jesus’ precious name !
As the subject verse says, who is going to harm us if we are eager to do good ? OK, first things first. Why do we believers need to do good ? Do good even to the wicked or evil ?
From the context it is clear that the Apostle Peter makes an important point known to the believers in Christ. And it is suffering for doing good. Yes, you are right — suffering for doing right in the sight of the Almighty God. The one who is ruling this world does not like the works of the Living God. There shall always be resistance and friction in the line of God’s works. But it is the Almighty God who enables us to move ahead in the path that He laid for us.
The Lord’s divine presence with us and in us empowers us to overcome all the difficulties or problems. We do good even to the wicked or to those who might have harmed us or harming us. And we do it for the love of Christ. Yes, as God loved us in all our unworthiness, we too love others like him. Thereby, we share His love to the people, even those who are wicked. Just as Jesus suffered for doing what is good for the whole humanity, we too shall be ready to suffer for Christ’s sake.
The effect of goodness
Brethren, when we diligently do good to others, it shall surely have impact over the people. They shall change their attitude and approach towards us. Just like how king David did good by not harming king Saul even when he had the chance to do. This made king Saul to weep over the goodness of David. The following verses makes it clear for us to understand the effect of goodness over evil.
‘When David had finished speaking, Saul called back, “Is that really you, my son David?” Then he began to cry. And he said to David, “You are a better man than I am, for you have repaid me good for evil. ‘1 Samuel 24:16-17
Therefore brethren, let us continue to do what is good in the sight of the Almighty God. And let everything be done for the glory of the Living God in Jesus’ precious and matchless name. Amen.
