Sins are like Scarlet

Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow …

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord . “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

All the glory, praises and honor be to the Heavenly Father in Jesus Christ’s precious name !

The subject verse from the Book of Isaiah is God’s invitation to the sinful to come and negotiate with Him. Just like a case in court, arguments and counter-arguments shall be made to bring a righteous judgement. Reading the few verses before the subject, the context becomes clear to us. The general thinking of the people is that they can live their lives in their own way as long as they continue to make sacrifices or do the religious rituals. But the word of God says that He is not at all interested in our varied offerings. He is rather interested in the people to turn away from evil and be cleansed from within.

The Almighty God says that He is sick of the burnt offerings of ram. Neither He takes pleasure in the blood of the bull, goats or lamb. For the offerings of the unrepentant hearts who continue to be sinful brings disgust rather than atonement. Therefore, the Living God calls for giving up the evil deeds and be washed clean. He invites the people to come and settle their case.

Whiter than snow

‘Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.’

Psalms 51:7 NLT

The subject verse says, our sins are like scarlet and are as red as crimson. The need of the people is to acknowledge their sins and come to repentance. The change in ones heart is what the Lord seeks from us. Very truly when we turn away from the evil and approach Him with a repentant heart, He is willing to cleanse us. As the Psalmist says in the above verse, He shall wash us and make us spiritually white which is whiter than snow.

Brethren, we no more require to offer the blood of the bulls or rams. But be reconciled to the Almighty God through His begotten Son, Jesus Christ. For He is our atonement from God. For the blood that He shed for us on the Calvary Cross cleanses our sins, transgressions, iniquities. Every repentant heart shall He clean and make us right with God.

In Jesus’ mighty and matchless name be saved. Amen
