God Does Not Show Favoritism

God does not show favoritism.

… how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, warm wishes and greetings!

All the glory and praise be to the Living God. The above subject verses (Acts 10:34-35) clearly puts before us the nature of the Almighty God. Truly, our God is impartial and does not show any favoritism. The background of the verses revolve around the Apostle Peter and a centurion of the Italian regiment named Cornelius.

The centurion, Cornelius and his family are devout and God-fearing. He was very generous to the needy and to those who prayed God regularly. Interestingly both Peter and Cornelius received visions from the God. Importantly it is the vision of Peter which is central to the referenced verses. The vision is all about Peter’s reluctance to eat something which God has made clean. Peter did not understand the meaning of the vision till he met Cornelius and his household.

Since the Law forbade Jews to associate with or visit a gentile, Peter thought that he was doing something against the law. Later he realised that God himself sent him to the gentile. By this act, Peter could come to know the real meaning of his vision in which God commanded him not to call anything impure which He has made clean. Very importantly, Peter realised that it is not only Jews, but also the gentiles who are the children of God. For God loved the whole humanity; He sent His only begotten Son as the Sacrificial Lamb. God did not show any favoritism, for Jesus died for the whole world.

Finally beloved as the Scriptures say, God accepts from every nation those who fear Him and does what is right. Jesus loves all. Amen.
