Desires of the flesh

The flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Galatians 5:17 NIV

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, warm welcome and greetings in His matchless name!

The Apostle Paul is clearly giving us a tint of what Spirit-empowered life looks like through this subject verse (Galatians 5:17). Truly, there is a constant fight that is going on in everyone of us. The fight is between our flesh and the Spirit. Our body, the flesh desires what is always opposite and annoying to the Spirit. Therefore, as the scripture says we are not to do anything we want without giving a forethought.

Beloved, we will have the real life. when we yield to Lord the Holy Spirit in us. By virtue of our sinful desires, we tend to give up to the desires of the flesh. But when we are fully devoted to the Christ, who gave Himself for us, He certainly strengthens us to walk the right path. The Comforter in us leads to the righteous path in the sight of God. Therefore, we will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Moreover, the scriptures says that we will not be under the law when we are led by the Spirit.

Spirit Gives Life

Lord Jesus clearly described to his disciples the real way of living. He emphasized to many that only the Spirit gives life to them. On the contrary what the flesh gives is nothing to the man. Furthermore, Jesus said that the words he has spoken are full of the Spirit and life. Although many of them do not believe, it is only those who are enabled by the Heavenly Father, believe in Jesus.

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

John 6:63 NIV

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.

Jeremiah 17:5 NIV

Therefore brethren, let us not be cursed by trusting the man, who draws strength from flesh and whose hearts are not set on God. Let us seek the Living God who is ever present for His children. Guiding and leading us in the paths of the righteousness for His glory’s sake. In Jesus matchless name may we all be strengthened in the Spirit. Amen.
