Practice of Righteousness

Practice righteousness for the glory of God alone.

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Matthew 6:1 NIV.

Praises to the almighty living God! Warm wishes and greetings in the mighty and matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is righteous and His laws are right. As the Scriptures according to Psalm 119:137 says:

“You are righteous, Lord, and your laws are right.”

God wants us to be righteous also. Rather than being righteous in our own sight, we need to be righteous in the sight of God. We should be worthy enough to be called righteous in God. The vain acts of charity that we do for the appeasement of people or for self-glorification would never fetch us anything from God. As the subject Scripture (Matthew 6:1) says, “do not practice your charity (or any act of righteousness) so as to be seen by the people”. For it is fruitless effort of pride which only brings false satisfaction. Certainly, it is true that godly living encourages us to give to the needy. Also God has clearly commanded us to be openhanded towards the poor and needy. Although the context may differ in terms of time and people, the following verse according to Deuteronomy 15:11 clearly vouches for openhandedness:

There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.

Charity for the glory of God.

Therefore brethren, let us do all acts of charity concealed from men and for the glory of God alone. Furthermore, our Father in heaven will definitely reward us in His time. As our Lord will never forget our work and the love we show for Him; let us not cease doing good for our fellow men. The verse according to Hebrews 6:10 substantiate the fact:

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

In Jesus name. Amen.
