Not Pervert the Justice

You shall not pervert the justice.

“You shall not pervert the justice due to the sojourner or to the fatherless, or take a widow’s garment in pledge,

Deuteronomy 24:17 ESV

All the glory, praises and honour be to the Holy Father in Jesus’precious name !

The subject verse is one among the miscellaneous laws presented in the chapter. And it deals with three groups of people – the sojourners or the strangers, the fatherless and the widows. By and large the common thing between these three groups are their helplessness. People may not take care about them, but the Almighty never leaves them. As the following verse says, the Almighty God is the Father to the fatherless and the protector of widows.

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.

Psalm 68:5 ESV

From the Bible we could see that the Israelites themselves were strangers in the Egypt. And even our Lord came down into this world as a Stranger. Moreover, the world never looked at the strangers in a noble way. Instead tried to exploit them. Since, the Almighty God loves all and is impartial, He cares for them and also all the afflicted including the other two groups mentioned. And the classic example in respect of a stranger in the Bible is Joseph. From the life of Joseph we could see how the Lord takes care of His children and blesses them.

The Omnipotent God is the protector of the meek. Those who try to harm these underprivileged people are working against God. As the children of God we have our responsibilty to ensure justice to the strangers, fatherless and the widows. Moreover this is God’s law given in the context chapter.

In Jesus precious name, let us do what is good in the sight of Almighty God and be blessed. Amen.
