All the glory, praises and honor be to the Heavenly Father in Jesus’ precious name!

The subject verse is part of the Beatitudes mentioned in the verses Matthew 5:3-12. The free encyclopedia Wikipedia states the Beatitudes as the eight blessings narrated by Jesus Christ in the sermon on the mount. The beatitude or blessedness referred regarding the subject verse is being merciful. Mercy is one of the many indispensable qualities of God. It must be remembered that our existence itself speaks of the great and rich mercies of the Omnipotent God.

Merciful God Gave His Begotten Son

The subject beatitude makes it plain that the merciful shall receive mercy. And this mercy received in return is not of the people, but of the God Most High. Truly, being merciful is a quality which the Almighty God wants to manifest in our lives. For God showed His mercy even though we are unworthy in every way. Yes, out of His great riches of mercy, God gave His begotten Son as a Sacrificial Lamb. Jesus submitted himself to the Calvary Cross to atone us from our sins.

Likewise, Jesus wants us to show the same mercy on others. If we are not merciful to others, how could we expect the Almighty God to show mercy upon us? From the parable of unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21-35), we could see God’s anger for unforgiving who seek mercy for their misdeeds. As the following verse questions, shouldn’t those who seek mercy for themselves show the same to others?

‘And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ ‘

Matthew 18:33 ESV

Brethren, the scriptures asks us to be merciful just as our Heavenly Father is merciful upon us. Also, a merciful person does good for his own soul while a cruel troubles his own flesh. Therefore, let us live our lives in the way of our Lord and be merciful to others for the glory of the Living God.

Be blessed in Jesus’ matchless and mighty name. Amen.
