Correct Me, Lord

Correct me, Lord

‘I know, Lord , that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course. So correct me, Lord , but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die.’

All the glory, praises and honor be to the Holy Father in Jesus’ precious name!

The subject verse from the Book of Jeremiah, speaks about man’s vulnerabilities and God’s correction. At the outset of Lord’s anger over His people, the prophet intercedes for them. The prophet prays to the Almighty God, reminding Him that their lives are not their own. And also he reminds of their inability to plan the right course in the sight of God. Sins committed by every person or a nation shall bear their consequences. And God shall surely judge and correct those. Here, the people of Israel are staring at God’s wrath over their sin of idolatry.

The Righteous God

The prophet confesses the sins of his people and acknowledges God of His righteous correction. And he also knows that no man could bear the God’s punishment out of anger. Therefore, he seeks God for moderation of the punishment. For God’s punishment could not result physical death, but also the eternal death, which is hell. But our God is merciful God. Though He corrects us, He will not completely destroy us. As the following verse says, He disciplines us to mete out justice, for He is righteous God.

‘For I am with you and will save you,” says the Lord . “I will completely destroy the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you, but with justice; I cannot let you go unpunished.”’

Jeremiah 30:11 NLT

Truly, mankind exists at the mercy of the Omnipotent God. Life without His great mercy and grace is beyond our comprehension. The Righteous God’s love is protecting us from the eternal damnation. God showed His love by sending His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ into this world. Yes, the ultimate sacrifice of Lord Jesus Christ on the cross has paved way for the salvation of every believer.

So, let us submit to the Lord and give thanks to Him in all situations, tests or trials. Be blessed in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
