Day: 9 April 2019

He Lifted Me

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

Psalm 40:2 NIV

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, warm wishes and hearty greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus!

The subject verse (Psalm 40:2) talks about a lost and sinful life. The sinful life is akin to life in a slimy pit and of the miry clay. This state of life could only be horrible, full of fear and pain. Surely, the life in a horrible pit is not something one would ever long for. Those in that pit could only long for their savior to lift them up.

Beloved brethren, this is the same state in which our Lord Jesus willingly put himself in. Identically,
the Cross which Jesus endured for our sake is the slimy and horrible pit. Furthermore, the agony and pain in the Garden before the Cross was equally severe for a person to go through. Surely, God never leaves behind all those who wait upon Him. Likewise, Jesus was raised from the dead by the Heavenly Father. Also, those who are in Christ are never left to the worldly troubles, sorrows or persecution. As the subject verse says, God sets our feet upon a solid rock, which is a firm place to stand.

Jesus is our Rock

Most importantly, the rock upon which we stand is our Lord Jesus Christ. Moreover, we by ourselves can never stand without the support of our Lord. For Jesus is our strength. Hence, as the following Bible verse say, when we turn to the Lord, He will lift us up from the depths and from the enemy.

I will exalt you, Lord , for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.

Psalm 30:1 NIV

Therefore brethren, let us fully turn and submit to our Lord Jesus, who lifts us up from the slimy pit and miry clay. And who Himself is our firm place. Amen.
