More Precious than Gold

The decrees of the Lord are more precious than gold, than much pure gold.

The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.

Psalms 19:9‭-‬10 NIV

All the glory, praises and honor be to the Holy Father in Jesus’ precious name !

The fear of the Lord is an expression that comes out of reverence and love to the Almighty God. The usual meaning of the word fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain or hurt. Although it could be the same fear of God’s punishment, but the context verse relates to the fear out of reverence and love. As the Psalmist says, this fear of the Lord is pure and lasting. According to the Bible, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of the wisdom.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10 NIV

Most precious are His words

In execution of justice, the Almighty God is just and moral for He is perfect, always right, holy, pure and true in all things. Therefore, the Psalmist concludes that His laws or decrees are more precious than the purest of gold. Truly, the laws established by the Almighty God shows His character and righteousness. And we the children of the Living God are to desire the same purity and righteousness and live them. As the following verse says, the words of His mouth are more precious than silver and gold.

The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.

Psalms 119:72 NIV

The Psalmist takes delight in the God’s laws as they keep him in the paths of righteousness. Indeed those who love God shall keep His commandments and love to do the works that glorify the Almighty. Considering the filth of sin all around accosting every righteous person, the laws of God seem sweeter than honey. In fact, in the words of the Psalmist, the decrees of the Lord are more sweeter than the honey from the honeycomb. Is it not absolutely true that every hater of sin shall declare the same ?

Therefore brethren, let us also live in the same reverence towards the Almighty God. And consider His decrees as the most precious and sweetest than gold and honey respectively. Furthermore, we could live our lives in the same way by the power of the Son of the Almighty God, Jesus Christ. For He alone is the way, the truth and the life. Let He alone be our Lord and Savior.

Stay blessed in Jesus. Amen.
