Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

As the verse says, pride leads to disgrace. In fact, pride is one such thing that God hates the most. There are many instances and events associated with pride throughout the Bible. And it is very plain that it is something most abhorred by God. The Bible according to the following verse, advocates what has been said:

‘The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.’

Proverbs 8:13

Many scholars and biblical writers consider pride as one of the most deadliest sins. It is the Satan’s most prominent trait and so was his fall to disgrace. Attributing oneself all the honor and glory due to God is nothing but rebellion against the Almighty God. As the following verse from the Book of Job says, the fallen one is the king over all the sons of pride:

‘He sees everything that is high; he is king over all the sons of pride.”’

Job 41:34

Humility is one such trait that could be said as directly opposite to pride. Humbleness or lowliness is the true character of a child of God. Every individual, growing in Christ would always clothe themselves with humility. The Bible says, those who are lowly or humble, always accompanies the presence of God.

‘For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite. ‘

Isaiah 57:15

Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, as the children of the Almighty, let us walk the way our Lord has laid for us. Do not give space to pride or to its other forms namely jealousy, arrogance, boasting, etc. Let us submit ourselves to the Lord with humility and obedience, for the Lord keeps the honor of the lowly.

Amen.
