God will refine them like silver and will purify them like gold.
I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘These are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’”
Many of the Biblical scholars and commentators attribute the above verse (Zechariah 13:9) as the prophecy of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus. They believe that the prophecy is about the sufferings of Jesus Christ. Notably, the verse could also be applicable to all those people whom God choose for His greater and mighty works. It is on the record that the children of God endured persecution for ages. The afflictions and trials for following Jesus is going on even now. Certainly, God gives them the strength to endure all the afflictions of this world. In the process we all are made pure for the glory of the Lord.
When God decides to purify or refine us, we will never be able to withstand or overcome by ourselves. Surely, God would not allow anything greater than our ability or strength over us. As said above, God comes to our rescue and never abandon us, Indeed the Lord refines us like silver and tests us like how gold is tested. But beloved, all of this is for our spiritual and physical strengthening and well being.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.I Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
Therefore take heart, for our God answers us when we call on His name. For He says that we are His people. And we as His children will say that the Lord is our God. In Him alone we will and to Him alone we submit and surrender. In Jesus matchless name, all the glory be to the Living God. Amen.
